Week of February 26th


Ms. Summers' Classes
Math: 
We will move on to 2D shapes.  Students will still be reviewing converting units of capacity, metric conversions and line plots.  Students will also continue working on understanding volume and determining volume.  New information will always be available in Math Notebooks. Homework is due Friday.
**Math homework will be given Monday to be turned in on Friday.  This is taken as a grade if completed, so please use the homework to review concepts with your child.  Xtramath can also be used to increase math fluency.
Did you know:  The homework is a great way to see what we are doing in class.  The Khan Academy link on the blog has tutorial videos that can help you, the parent, as well as your child practice the strategies we teach in class.  Edmodo is also a good resource for tutorial videos and practice games.

ELA:
We will have a mentor text this week.  We will read Henry's Freedom Box.  Our grammar focus will be the different uses of "to" along with dialects and registers.
Our Affixes of the Week are "circu", "equ/eqi", "ess".
Our vocabulary words for the week are:beckoned, crate, warehouse, vitriol, clerk and pried.
Please utilize Edmodo for games and tutorial videos at home.




Ms. Palmer's Classes
Math: 
We will begin our 2D shapes unit. We will continue to review conversions and line plots as well. New information will always be available in Math Notebooks.


Homework will be given on Mondays and will be collected on Friday mornings. Home will be taken for a weekly participation grade. Please have students log on to xtramath.org in their spare time, to help with basic fact fluency. Also, tenmarks.com is an awesome resource for students to practice concepts taught in class. Students have login information in their agendas.

Writing: 
We will begin our opinion writing unit.


Mrs. Anderson's Classes

Math:
We will move on to 2D shapes.  Students will still be reviewing converting units of capacity, metric conversions and line plots.  Students will also continue working on understanding volume and determining volume.. Although we are working on the measurement unit, students must continue to practice fractions daily.  

Please have your child to practice math using the websites TenMarks.com and educationgalaxy.com .  TenMarks login information for parents will be sent home Monday.  Please don't forget to ask your child for this very important document.

Science: 
We are still hard at work understanding chemical and physical changes.  Vocabulary for unit includes:  
atom, element, molecule, change of state, physical change, chemical change, mixture, physical property, chemical property, chemical change, chemical reaction, compounds laws of conservation of mass

It is very important that your child study each night.  Focus on vocabulary and review vocabulary on Quizlet.com.  Type in nebrinaa to get to study cards.  Please have your child to refer to studyjams.scholastic.com and sheppardsoftware.com for reinforcement of science and math standards. 

Ms. Hill's Class
Math- 
Students will continue with line plots and 2d shapes. In small group, students will continue improving their fraction skills, and measurement conversion. Please encourage your child to utilize iLearn. This site is an excellent math resource. Homework is due Friday.

Social Studies-

We will discuss conflicts which lead to a Cold War, the Korean War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Key terms; Communism, Cold War, Iron Curtain, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Warsaw Pact, Blockade, Domino theory, cease-fire.

Mrs. Griggs' Classes


Math- 
We will begin working with line plots.  Student should not have a hard time with this concept. We will also continue to review measurement.  Please remember to  always check your child's math interactive notebook to learn how you can assist your child with homework.  Homework is always due on Friday.

Reading- 
In reading this week, we will finish our techniques for finding evidence to enhance our constructive responses. For our extended text,  The Watsons go to Birmingham, the classes will begin watching the movie.  Thank you to all of the families that came out to support the students when we gathered at Arbor Place Cinema to see Wonder. Before school is out, we hope to assemble again to see, A Wrinkle in Time.
