Week of February 11th

Grammar/Writing
We are working on narrative writing prompts and students will continue to be working on creating extended responses.  An extended response is an response to a prompt that includes an introduction, a body that answers the prompt that cites text evidence and a strong conclusion.  The writing occurs after the student has read, typically, two related texts.

Math
We will wrap up our dividing fractions unit and begin our unit on Volume this week. Fractions and decimals are heavily tested on GMAS, so consistent practice on these topics is crucial. Please have your child review their interactive notes  nightly for practice.

Reading
We will be identifying different text structures in informational text. Students will practice reading  works from multiple sources and use graphic organizers to gain deeper understanding of the information that they read.

Science
We will be studying electricity and magnetism.  With our new topic, we will be practicing Close Reading Strategies.  Close Reading helps with Comprehension and is essential in the reading process.  We are developing our grasp of the RACE strategy, which is a process used to answer Constructed Responses. We will also conduct labs to enhance mastery of the subject.

Social Studies
We will be practicing Close Reading Strategies to gain deeper understanding of social studies topics. We are currently learning about World War II.
