Week of September 25th



Mrs. Anderson's Classes

Math:
Students will begin to have weekly multiplication quizzes.  Please make sure your child is practicing this skill.  We will focus on place value, division, and multiplication.

Science: 
Reminder:  Cells and microorganism unit test will be Friday.  Students should study all vocabulary words daily.  

We will continue our study of microorganism.  Our next standards include the study of the kingdoms.

Math: 
Review:
We will review and work on mastery of Unit One concepts - powers of ten, orders of operations, multiplication, division, and evaluating and writing expressions in order to prepare for the first CDA.  Please be on the lookout for the date of the test.

**Math homework will be given Monday to be turned in on Friday.  This is taken as a grade if completed, so please use the homework to review concepts with your child.  Xtramath can also be used to increase math fluency.


ELA: 

We will introduce compound sentences and review conjunctions.
Our vocabulary words for the week are : flickered, cellar, grasping, thrust, dashed, and bittersweet.
Please utilize Edmodo for games and tutorial videos at home.


Ms. Palmer's Classes
Math: 
We will continue to focus on multiplying whole numbers and begin dividing whole numbers.  Please have students refer to their interactive math notebooks, when completing their homework.

Homework will be given on Mondays and will be collected on Friday mornings
Please have students log on to xtramath.org in their spare time, to help with basic fact fluency. Also, tenmarks.com is an awesome resource for students to practice concepts taught in class. Students have login information in their agendas.


Writing: 
We will continue our personal narrative writing unit. We will talk about including exciting beginnings, "show don't tell" sentences, transitions, and dialogue to make our writing more thrilling.

No Writing Homework.


Ms. Hill's Class
Math-

Reading- 
In reading, we will continue to focus on making inferences and how to quote accurately from a text.  We will also evaluate how characters in a story respond to challenges.  Our extended text is Wonder. We will use this book to help us explore theme and characterization further. Students will also become more familiar with their Lexile score for reading. This will allow them an opportunity to choose books from the Media Center that are more individualized for their reading ability.
