Math:
We will review the concepts covered this first nine weeks.  They include powers of ten, order of operations, place value, multiplication, and division.  There will be a CDA Friday over the concepts covered.  Please review the study guide to prepare.  It is closely aligned with the test.
Did you know:  The homework is a great way to see what we are doing in class.  The Khan Academy link on the blog has tutorial videos that can help you, the parent, as well as your child practice the strategies we teach in class.  Edmodo is also a good resource for tutorial videos and practice games.
**Math homework will be given Monday to be turned in on Friday.  This is taken as a grade if completed, so please use the homework to review concepts with your child.  Xtramath can also be used to increase math fluency.

ELA:

We will work on adjectives (particularly comparative and superlative adjectives) and will continue to review  personification.
Our mentor text for the week is Verdi!
Our vocabulary words for the week are : dawdled, lazing, murky, lofty, antics, and basked
Please utilize Edmodo for games and tutorial videos at home.

This week's homework will be the study guide given to prepare for Friday's CDA.

Homework will be given on Mondays and will be collected on Friday mornings
Please have students log on to xtramath.org in their spare time, to help with basic fact fluency. Also, tenmarks.com is an awesome resource for students to practice concepts taught in class. Students have login information in their agendas.

We will continue our personal narrative writing unit. We will be finishing up our "moment in time" narrative piece.

No Writing Homework.

This week we will begin working with decimals. We will continue to review place value,  multiplication fluency, and division.
Vocabulary Focus:

Reading-
In reading, we will continue to focus on making inferences and how to quote accurately from a text.  We will also evaluate how characters in a story respond to challenges.  Our extended text is Wonder. We will use this book to help us explore theme and characterization further. Students will also become more familiar with their Lexile score for reading. This will allow them an opportunity to choose books from the Media Center that are more individualized for their reading ability.
