Week of August 21

Mrs. Anderson's Classes

Math:
We will focus on order of operations, evaluating numerical expressions, and grouping symbols.  Example:  2 x [(9 x 4) - (17 - 60)] or written expressions nine times the sum of two and three.

Remind students to follow PEMDAS.  Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication OR Division, and Addition OR Subtraction, make sure to work left to right.

Science: 
We will continue our study of plant and animal cells and microorganism.
Vocabulary Focus:  membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, chloroplasts, cell wall, structure, beneficial, harmful

We will be working on Subject & Predicates, Run-on Sentences, and Fragments.



Ms. Palmer's Classes
Math: 
We will focus on order of operations, evaluating numerical expressions, and grouping symbols.
Homework will be given on Mondays and will be collected on Friday mornings
Please have students log on to xtramath.org in their spare time, to help with basic fact fluency.


Writing: 
We will continue practicing our Constructive Responses with our 1,2,3 method.


Ms. Hill's Class
Math-

Social Studies-

We are working on our Civil War Unit.




Mrs. Griggs' Classes

Math- 
We will focus on order of operations, evaluating numerical expressions, and grouping symbols.


Reading- 
We will focus on determining the theme of  a text.  We will also evaluate how characters in a story respond to challenges.  Our extended text is Wonder. We will use this book to help us explore theme and characterization further.
