Week of November 28th

Mrs. Anderson's Classes
Math - We will continue to our study of fractions.  It's extremely important that students become more fluent with their multiplication facts.   There are several multiplication online resources that will help students learn the multiplication facts.

Please encourage your child to practice daily on TenMarks.

Homework - Turn in the next day when assigned.  We will discuss all homework assignments the following day.
Assessments - All assessments are given Thursday or Friday and will cover material covered in class that week.

Reading - This week we will focus on informational reading.  Please encourage your children to put forth their best effort and use the strategies to better understand the material.

*Graded math (Anderson's homeroom only) and reading assignments will no longer be sent home in the Dolphin Folder.  I will maintain reading portfolios for all 5th grade students.  I welcome the opportunity to conference with you in order to discuss your child's progress.




Ms. Lewis' Classes
Math
Overview: We will continue working with fractions. 
Helpful Videos:
Homework: Worksheet due Friday. Check Edmodo daily for updates and information.

Fluency Practice: All students are asked to practice fluency at least 3 times a week using www.xtramath.org. Each student has their username and pin on a red sheet in the front of their agenda. If it asks for an email address, use: radiance.lewis@douglas.k12.ga.us

Assessments: There will be weekly assessments based on what has been covered in class. Any failing grades can be corrected and returned for partial credit.

ELA
Overview: This week we will work with affixes and roots to help us determine the meaning of words.

Homework: Vocabulary homework on Edmodo. Study for vocabulary test on Friday. Vocabulary words should be in ELA interactive notebook.

Assessments: There will be weekly assessments based on what has been covered in class. Assessments will include constructed response questions that should be answered using the 1-2-3 method that is being used in class. Any failing grades and be corrected and returned for partial credit.

Ms. Palmer's Classes
Math-
We will continue working on fractions.

Xtramath: Students received their login information on a pink sheet of paper for Xtramath.org. They are expected to practice their math fact fluency on this website at least 3 times a week from school or home. Let me know if you are having trouble logging on.

Assessments: Students will be assessed weekly based on information covered in the classroom. Students are more than welcome to take their math notebook home to use as a study tool. 
Failing grades can be done over for partial credit.


Homework: Math homework will be assigned on Monday and will be expected to be turned in on Friday morning. I will not collect homework until Friday morning. 


Writing-
We will begin our informational/expository writing.


Homework: No Homework


Mr. Waters' Classes
Math- We have finished module 2 and are preparing for module 3.  This module is working on adding and subtracting fractions with and without common denominators.  It is imperative that your child be at school each and every day.  This will be a difficult module, especially if your child is absent.
Failing grades can be done over for partial credit.


Science- This week we will be continuing our work on Genetics.  We will be focusing mostly on Punnett Squares this week.  This is fun for students and you can find more information about them here.

Mr. Wooden's Class

Students should be reading 15 minutes per day and recording it in their reading logs.  Continue to get agendas signed daily.  Students will need their agenda at school for class time restroom breaks.

Math-   Module 3 starts Monday 11/14.  We will be starting with adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.  Daily homework Mon-Thur.  Exit tickets Tuesday and Thursday.
Extra credit packets can be completed during the week we are out.
Students should correct, and study any low grade exit tickets for a retake Tues-Fri 715-745 
Low grades you should retake?  Turn in by Friday.


Social Studies-    Unit 5 Changing America Key people and terms. Major events. America's westward expansion (Alaska and Hawaii), Panama Canal, The Spanish American War Unit 5 CDA 12/7
